THE PROFOUND DARKNESS
OF ITS HEART
Lismore NSW Australia
This series of paintings was made in Lismore NSW between 2008 and 2010.
There was no overall theme to this series, but in retrospect, the downcast figures in the wasted landscape perhaps reflect my own state at the time. I always felt like an outcast in the sport and money-focused culture of contemporary Australia. Perhaps this sense of being in exile is the white-fellah's karma in a land that a mere two centuries ago, was brutally occupied by British colonisers and stolen from the indigenous inhabitants.
These invaders claimed it was uninhabited and theirs for the taking; contemporary mining companies seem to have a similar attitude.
